Negative Beliefs About Money - How Can You Change Them?

What Are Negative Beliefs About Money?
Negative beliefs about money are simply beliefs we've picked up that have negative associations with money. Classic ones are "Money doesn't grow on trees" or "Rich people are bad".

Why Are They Important?
They are vitally important for two reasons. The first is that they influence the way we habitually handle money - whether we save or spend. And secondly, as most are acquired unconsiously, we are often unaware of the beliefs' existence.
This means that most people are under the influence of forces that control their spending that they're not even consciously aware of.

Can You Change Negative Beliefs?
The great news is that once we're aware of them, we can change them. And there are many effective ways of changing beliefs. One method that most people have come across is the use of affirmations.

The Truth About Affirmations
Affirmations, despite being a well-known technique, have got a bad reputation. So many people have tried them out, only to find they don't work. Then they give up on affirmations as a technique for change.
The trouble is, most people just don't use affirmations correctly.
They are taught to affirm something they want, have it in the first person (ie "I"), put it in the present tense and phrase it in the positive. A classic example is from Coue: "Every day and in every way I'm getting better and better." All this is fine, but it's just not enough.
Merely asserting what you want does not properly engage your emotions. And, critically, it does not engage your body, which can be used so effectively as a feedback mechanism.

What To Do Instead
Just follow these five steps to ensure success in the use of affirmations to change beliefs.

Step One
Take the negative belief eg "Money doesn't grow on trees" and express the opposite. Don't get stressed about getting this perfect. Any positive phrase that seems to be opposite is fine. For example, either "money is abundant" or "money is freely available" would work.

Step Two
Ensure the belief is phrased as a positive affirmation, is in the present tense and in the first person. For example, "I realise that money is abundant". Say the affirmation out loud in a way that you believe it. Say it a few times.

Step Three
Now pause and notice the effect that has on your body. Do you notice any tension, any stiffness, any bad feeling? All these are signs of resistance. If you have any, great - just accept it and focus on it.

Step Four
State the affirmation again, and again focus on the specific feeling it causes in your body. Notice if it's changed in intensity or moved. Repeat your affirmation and check with your body again. Also notice any self-talk and accept that, whatever it is.

Step Five
Repeat your affirmation until you get an acceptance from your body. Sometimes this will happen quickly, other times it may take several days of repeating your affirmation.

What Is Acceptance From Your Body?
It varies from person to person, but there are some commonalities. You may notice the feeling in your body - perhaps tension - shifting to another location. You may notice a distinct relaxation in a part of your body - perhaps your neck or shoulders. Some people notice their body becoming more aligned and balanced. A sure sign is a sigh of acceptance.
If you try this with a few affirmations, one at a time, you will get to know your body's responses and will be able to calibrate those responses.

So What Have We Done?
In this article we have covered the importance of addressing our negative beliefs about money and have outlined one effective way of dealing with them. Affirmations, we have found, can be effective if we engage our body as a feedback mechanism.

Once we become aware of our body's reaction to the new affirmation, we can work with it to incorporate the new belief into our being. Once we do that, we're on track to changing all our negative beliefs about money and adopting good wealth accumulating behaviours.

It's Not Just About Money
But it's more than just beliefs about money. Often it's beliefs about ourselves that we need to change. Subconsciously, we believe we don't deserve to have money and we are not good enough. It might be you believe you are not good enough to have good relationships, be healthy and be wealthy.
So there is a bigger picture here; we don't look at just beliefs about money but we look at beliefs about ourselves.

The 400% Dryer - The Best Way To Waste Money And Time

Even after being around and involved in appliance repair for over thirty years, I still have the occasional Never Seen Anything Like IT moments. I had one today as a matter of fact. I received a call about a dryer that wasn't functioning correctly. The client said that the dryer had never worked properly and that it was getting even worse. It was one of the expensive LG front load dryers that was supposed to be top of the line and energy efficient.

The address they gave was in a very posh section of town, I arrived to a gorgeous two story colonial and the lady of the house ushered me to the laundry room and right away I could see at least part of the problem. The laundry room had been placed in the center of the house in a little closet and for the vented air from the dryer to make it to the exterior it had to go through at least twenty feet of duct.
The next tell tale sign was that the dryer was jammed up tight against the wall. Upon looking it over I realized whoever installed it had done so because they had to in order for the electrical breaker box door to open. My first order of business in a situation like this is to go check where the dryer vents outside to see how much air is flowing out. It doesn't matter how much a dryer costs or how hot it gets, the main ingredient is having a sufficient volume of air flowing through the machine and moving the moisture that the heat removes from the clothes outside.

The first thing I noticed about the exterior dryer vent was that it was closed. In fact it had never been open, it was one of those that has flaps that the air pushes open and then they close when you are finished drying to keep bugs and critters from exploring your dryer vent. On closer inspection I discovered that when the house had been originally painted about four years hence, they had painted the cover and then the paint had hardened in place and glued the dryer vent shut, the same as paint will often cause a window to stick and not open.

However when I cleaned the paint off and got the flaps opening and closing properly again, there was still no air flowing out. I checked where the dryer was vented into the wall and discover that when the dryer was originally shoved against the wall, the vent hose had been smashed closed, completely shutting off the flow of air to the outside. It was so bad that there was a big U shape in the duct which was filled with this awful sludge of water and lint at the bottom, the worst clog I have ever seen.
The solution was to run a flexible vent hose and to not push the dryer right up next to the wall. Once I did that, I started getting good airflow on the outside at which point I knew the problem was solved. As I was wrapping up and chatting with the client, she told me that they had routinely been running a load of clothes four times through the dryer to get it dry. So they were using four times as much power to dry the clothes as they needed to. Ouch!

The part they didn't realize was that all that heat which should have been being vented outside was actually being retained in the house and then the air conditioner was having to remove all that heat from the house, I can't imagine how much more that was tacking onto the power bill as well.
The moral of the story is this: If your dryer is not working correctly, don't tolerate it, REPAIR IT! Your energy bill will go down, the amount of time you'll spend doing laundry will go down, your stress level will go down.

Anger is a natural reaction to a specific situation. We are all instinctively hardwired to respond aggressively to a perceived or real threat. Anger may be healthy or even crucial for an individual's well-being in some situations, yet it becomes detrimental if it grows into an unmanageable rage. It then takes control of our lives, hurting the people around us. According to research, one out of every five persons has anger management issues. These individuals struggle with abnormally repressed or expressed anger, leading to severe emotional and physical implications.

Anger causes us to act dangerously as we are likely to not think clearly as we speak or react. Most people later regret whatever they said or did while they were going through their feelings of intense anger. Anger can make you hurt others or even yourself emotionally or physically. People may start avoiding you or even feel fearful of you, leading to feelings of isolation, loneliness or even depression. Uncontrollable rage and anger cause poor decision-making and adds further complications to your life.

To start your anger management process, the best strategy is to start recognizing the early signs of anger within you. The first step is to accept the fact that you have the strength to control your anger. This control is essentially a skill that improves with practice. Realizing that ups and downs are very normal will enable you to understand that it is acceptable to feel anger when something goes wrong. Focus on the positives in your life and do something that relaxes you. Breathing deeply and slowly works for almost everyone.

Stop yourself from saying or doing the first instinctive thing that comes to the mind and instead, count to ten. This brief wait will let you think about how others' feelings will be affected by your reaction. Think about leaving or at least taking a break and come back after you feel more in control of your anger. Make advance contingency plans for how you will react if you find yourself in irritating circumstances.
Listen to others with open-mindedness. Perhaps you have preconceived notions about what others say since you haven't been listening carefully. Try to explain your perspective very calmly, even if you find it tiresome. Develop your own constructive anger management methods, such as listening to music, a run, talking to a friend or perhaps writing a journal.

When you find yourself achieving even the slightest level of success at managing your intense anger, appreciate yourself. Move further ahead in the process and identify the circumstances where you are able to manage your emotions and the ones where your anger takes over. This will be your powerful tool that will grow as you achieve more and more success in your anger management.

Must Have Photos for Weddings

Whether weddings are large or small, you want to have the best possible photos taken to remember your special day. There is no better way to remember the happiness and love you shared on your special day than with photos. Talking with your photographer and making a list of special photos you would like taken is the best way to capture all the magic of the day.

Before the Ceremony
Your photos should start before the marriage ceremony. Getting ready for the big day is one part of the fun you will want to have captured on film. Though a lot of so-called leaders and many companies don't seem to realize it, there is a huge difference between work and achievement. And whenever you focus on one you can end up reducing the other. Focusing work can severely reduce the amount you achieve. Focusing an achievement can greatly reduce the amount you have to work.

"For me, it wasn't a matter of not living the life I thought I should live," says Eleanor Adams, president of an international consulting firm in the Minneapolis, MN. "I had no life. My days were filled with an infinite to-do list and a daytimer the size of the Manhattan phone directory. I was on the verge of collapsing from total exhaustion. Then I finally realized that the purpose of my job is not perpetual motion without ever having a moment to think. The purpose of my job is to achieve results."

The last time we talked, she said, "The better I get at what I do, the less I work."
Peter Drucker wrote that while being efficient means doing things right, being effective means doing the right things. But how many of us feel like the industrial designer who once told me, "We're far too busy around here to ever get anything done."

Hard work is productive. Overwork usually isn't. That's why we call it "overwork."
Organizational development expert, Thomas Quick, tells a story about a young man who was promoted to head the shipping department and had to work with an older and more experienced crew. At first it was very tough for him as you might imagine. But he learned to make accommodations. After a while, he even cut a deal with them: if he didn't insist that they return to work immediately when their break ended, they would work harder.

The crew's productivity increased by 20 percent. Then the new supervisor's boss happened to catch them sitting around a few minutes after the official end of their break. Summoning the young man into his office, he angrily insisted that rules were rules and enforcing those rules was what supervision was all about. He didn't want to hear any reasons for granting exceptions.
So the rules were enforced. And production dropped back to where it had been. The men lost, the supervisor lost and the corporation lost.
Tactic: Focus on results not activity. Whenever possible, get your boss to do the same.

Golf Tips - Tempo and Timing Tips

Just to share a problem with you and I think it is a common problem with most golfers I see when I give lessons. It has only been 2 seasons that I have gotten back into the game seriously since my accident. With my bad back I had to readjust my tempo and timing to protect myself from damaging myself more. However, even slowing down my back tends to get tired by the back nine and subconsciously I try to compensate with my arms and hands. I get quick with my back swing as well and can feel my head come up, causing some interesting shots (BAD shots).

Timing and tempo are so important to a smooth golf swing and over swing can cause a lot of miss hit balls and strokes. I love the feet together drill for this over swinging and when I catch myself compensating during my game, I will stand behind my ball and take a few practice swings with my feet together to get back in the groove.

Let me explain this drill, for those of you who do not know this drill. If you find that you have a tendency to over swing (get quick) and find it difficult to keep your head down, this drill is for you. When on the range, place your feet together and take your normal swing. If you swing to quick or over swing, you will find it hard to keep your balance. You will have to find a tempo that will allow you to swing without feeling like you're going to fall over. It's that simple, but is perfect to find a good tempo for your swing. It really makes you slow down your swing.

Another drill for timing if you are an over the top swinger, letting your body gets out in front to quickly is an over the top result. Take your normal stance and then take your back leg and place it straight behind you, up on your toes. This restricts your hip turn and gets your hands and hips back in time together. You will get a good feel on how the hands and hips work together at contact of the ball.
The opposite of the above swing is getting your hands out in front of your body. The drill to fix this is almost the same, but instead of placing your back foot behind you, it is the front foot you take back and place on its toes. This will allow you to open up your hips properly and get the feel of getting your hands in time with your hips.

These three drills will correct your timing in your swing, but will also adjust your tempo. If you don't have a good tempo in these drills, you will be out of balance and have the tendency to tip over (stumble) through your finish.
